| Pedestrian Protection Pedestrian protection is one of the most important criteria as regards the exterior safety of a vehicle. Volkswagen builds its vehicles in such a way that other road users and pedestrians are exposed to as little danger as possible. The numerous measures undertaken by Volkswagen to ensure the protection of pedestrians include special deformation elements in the front bumper, a maximum possible distance between bonnet and engine, and deformable wings, some made of plastic, such as on the Phaeton. There must also be no sharp corners or edges and no protruding parts such as badges or trim components. The aim of these measures is to minimise the risk of injury by designing the “contact zones” to yield as much as possible. |
